Which way out? Sound in urban space

"Which way out?" is the first event in Israel focusing on the plastic side of sound-art. A one day event on August 15th, it features seven different sound installations and performances, all of which treat sound as medium or take sound as a main axis or theme of work. The artists featured in "Which Way Out" are among the leading figures operating in the gray zone between music and art in Israel.

Though sonic art has been part of the art world since the sixties, in recent years there is a growing global interest in the role of sound as an artistic medium. This new interest owes much to a diffusion of the borders between music composition and installations, which in turn stems partly from appearance of new possibilities introduced by developments in electronic and digital music and partly from convergence of practices across various fields of art.

In Israel there have been quite a few artists who dabble in sonic art, creating sound installations or working with sound in various contexts, but so far there has been no attempt to document them and collect them in one space and time. "Which Way Out?" attempts exactly that.
